This paper presents a spatial sound reproduction approach for enhanced, subjective assessment of interior car sound. The sound reproduction approach is based on wave field synthesis technology (WFS). This technology enables holophonic audio reproduction and an enhanced immersion of the listener into a spatially extended sound field without using headphones. It allows a convincing experience of the audio environment and more reliable results in subjective listening tests, in particular with untrained persons. Implementations and examples and are presented, covering holophonic audio imaging and stereophonic reproduction for a large listening area. Compatibility issues to existing auralization techniques are discussed.
