Acoustic Project Engineer

Function description:

We are seeking a project engineer with a solid theoretical acoustic background to join the LMS Engineering Services group in Leuven.  The focus for this function is on the execution and management of projects in the area of noise and vibration, with a primary focus on the energy market. The project engineer will be given the opportunity to work in a research environment to be able to develop new methodologies in the field of Acoustics.

The projects can take from a couple of weeks, where only two people work together, to several years where typically projects are subdivided in workpackages.
The growth path goes from
  • a project engineer, primarily executing smaller projects
  • to a project leader, responsible for larger projects and coordinating other project engineers on a project basis,
  • to program manager overviewing large engineering programs over a period of 2 to 3 years.
Further evolutions either in the direction of team/site management or technical leadership functions are extended growth opportunities.

For the project engineer function:
  • Project execution:
    • project definition, capacity planning,
    • execution of measurement tasks and/or calculation tasks,
    • solution development and structural improvement recommendations
  • Project management of engineering projects in the field of noise, vibration and functional performance.
    • Planning of a new project according to existing proposal / contract/specification: technical approach, expected risks, project team, timing/deadlines.
    • Execution of a project according to planning. Meeting customer expectation via quality control and/or adaptation of customer expectation.
    • Documentation of a project: technical report, presentation.
    • Delivery of results : discussion with customers and presentation of results
    • Risk & problem management: adaptation of planning in accordance with customer.
  • Contribution to technology development & improvement:
    • Execution of method development projects. Internal responsibility for approximately 2 technology topics.

  • Contribution to business development
    • Upon request: generation of marketing material & proposals, attendance to pre-sales or sales meetings.
Boundaries:

LMS projects address an international community. This gives interested engineers a challenging working environment, in cooperation with Japanese, Chinese, German, French, … specialist that work in state of the art processes and at the edge of technology.
It involves frequent travelling and periodically longer periods in foreign countries. Typical travel durations are one to two weeks, but occasional foreign stays of 3 to 6 months present further opportunities to get hands-on experience.
Project teams are composed based on the project at hand. As such one gets different challenges in every new project, but also has different team members in every project, facilitating a fast development of technical skills and experience.

Desired: 
  • University Degree in engineering with MSc or PhD in acoustics
  • Interest and understanding of mechanical engineering is a strong plus
  • Base knowledge of noise and vibration measurement and engineering. Past industrial or research experience with NVH measurements or with NVH calculations is a plus.
  • Experience and interest in project based working
  • Dynamic person, wanting to take on challenges and take responsibility for his own project, both on the technical side as on the project management and customer relation side.
