Durability

LMS Engineering assists OEMs and suppliers in developing components and vehicles with optimal fatigue and strength characteristics, making sure that parts are not too heavy or too expensive to manufacture profitably. LMS Engineering can take full-vehicle responsibility or focus on specific subsystems like front or rear suspension, corner modules, body and body parts, and individual components.

Load data analysis and test schedule development

  • Gaining a precise understanding of the loads that a vehicle and its components will undergo during its lifetime
  • Developing an accelerated proving ground test scenario to  validate full-vehicle prototypes on their durability performance
  • Developing accelerated rig testing scenarios to validate sub-system prototypes (suspension, body)
    on their durability performance
  • Prepare loading scenarios for fatigue life prediction using virtual simulation
Detailed vehicle engineering

  • Full vehicle multibody simulation to generate vehicle and subsystem loading information from pure virtual
simulation, or a combination of virtual simulation and road testing on a predecessor vehicle (hybrid approach)
  • Fast and accurate fatigue-life analysis: LMS engineers offer man-years of experience with body & chassis fatigue life analysis, supporting customers in assessing and optimizing the durability performance of their designs before prototype testing
Prototype refinement and optimization

  • Develop and perform accelerated proving ground and rig test scenarios to validate vehicle prototypes
based on accurate and representative load cases
  • Late-stage problem solving, when appropriate by using a combination of test and virtual simulation to identify the causes of durability issues discovered in late development stages and to explore and validate design fixes, before engaging into a new round of prototype building and testing
