Dynamic behavior of a hydrostatic regenerative braking system for public service hybrid vehicles

A model to study the dynamic behavior of a city bus equipped with a hydrostatic regenerative braking system has been developed with LMS Imagine.Lab AMESim. The system, based on a hydrostatic circuit, is composed by a reversible hydrostatic unit and two hydro-pneumatic accumulators, connected with the conventional powertrain according to the power assist scheme. Simulations performed with the model show reductions in fuel consumption of about 20 % for the regenerative braking system under urban driving conditions.
