The LMS Imagine.Lab AMESim tool for the analysis and the optimization of hydraulic vane pumps

This paper will present a new tool under development at LMS Simulation division dedicated to the analysis and the design of different solutions of hydraulic pumps working on the displacement principle. 

The Imagine.Lab AMESim pumps-solution library represents the reply of LMS to an increasing demand of consulting and customized developments on hydrostatic pumps coming from several customers in the last years. In this paper we will focus our attention on a particular technology of displacement machines represented by vane pumps whose most common applications are IC engine lubrication, hydraulic power steering systems and automotive transmissions. The paper will introduce the vane pumps library under development at LMS and the analytical equations describing the physics of each component. Some simulation results will be presented and discussed in details regarding two variabledisplacement vane pumps mainly differing in the hydraulic control strategy and in the motion of the stator ring to reach the proper displacement.
