LMS International has announced the first release of CAT/FALANCS, a software product for the prediction of fatigue lifetime that runs within CATIA, the world’s leading computer-aided-design/manufacturing/engineering (CAD/CAM/CAE) tool from Dassault Systemes (NYSE, DASTY). Based upon the successful LMS FALANCS durability analysis package, CAT/FALANCS helps the designer to predict the critical life locations and time to fatigue failure of a component subject to real-life loads.
With physical testing, durability problems can only be detected very close to the end of the development cycle - severely impacting cost and quality. On the other hand, finite element based stress analysis alone is not enough to detect durability problems: the ranges of the local stress-strain cycles and thus the dynamic loading are not taken into account. CAT/FALANCS will quickly and automatically detect potential crack initiation locations - users do not have to guess where they might be.
Non-expert users can recall complete parameter sets created by durability specialists, launch a fatigue analysis, then visualize the stresses, strains, and resulting damage contours. This allows designs to be quickly checked for a flawed concept early on in the development cycle. Experts will enjoy the sophisticated analysis features and the speedy way that the process runs from CAD model to a final analysis.
Loading histories can be imported in all major durability test data formats, such as IST LabSite", MTS RPC" III, etc, and from multibody simulation packages such as LMS DADS.
The release of CAT/FALANCS results from the CAA Strategic Development Partnership Agreement between Dassault Systemes and LMS International. This Strategic Development Partnership intends to enable common customers to move from an iterative troubleshooting on physical prototypes, to a proactive design process where quality is systematically built-in at every stage from concept to completion. To deliver on this vision, LMS has integrated all its software products for functional performance engineering in the CATIA environment: CAT/FALANCS for durability engineering, CAT/DADS for dynamic motion simulation and CAT/SYSNOISE for NVH and acoustic engineering.
About the CAA Partnership Program:
CATIA-CADAM Application Architecture (CAA) provides industries with the software development tools, methods, standards and processes required to create seamlessly integrated applications based on the CATIA open architecture. The CAA partnership program creates tight development relationships with industry leading software developers. It is staged from CAA Development partnership for CAA product integration up to CAA Strategic Development partnership for tighter integration.
