LMS International and IMAGINE announce strategic partnership

Press Release Date6 Jun 2006

Partnership aims at delivering integrated solution for the engineering of mechatronic systems

Leuven (Belgium), Roanne (France) - LMS International and IMAGINE, today announced the signing of a strategic partnership agreement to develop and market integrated solutions for the functional modeling and simulation of mechatronic systems. The integrated solutions will leverage LMS’s expertise and products for 3D system modeling and functional performance simulation, and IMAGINE’s expertise and products for physics based multidisciplinary system modeling and simulation. Both parties will deliver combined solutions for mechatronic system analysis, based on interoperability between LMS Virtual.Lab Motion and IMAGINE AMESim.

In view of the increased use of active systems to improve product performance, the engineering of mechatronic systems has become a key driver to deliver innovation in mechanical product design.  The relentless pressure to reduce development time and engineering costs, forces development groups to engineer the functional performance of these mechatronic systems from the early concept stage on. Manufacturers have to optimize the interaction between mechanical, hydraulic, electric systems before committing to time-consuming prototype testing. This requires a close integration between multidisciplinary system simulation methods, that are used to model the performance of various actuators and control systems, with 3D multibody mechanism simulation applications, to assess the performance of such mechatronic systems.

Through the partnership, users of LMS Virtual.Lab Motion and IMAGINE AMESim will benefit from a seamless interface between both applications. It enables engineers to use AMESim to build high fidelity models of hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, electric drives and control systems, and seamlessly interface these with 3D mechanical models in LMS Virtual.Lab Motion, to run simulations of mechatronic systems.

“We expect tremendous benefits for our mutual customer communities through the integration of the AMESim capabilities with LMS Virtual.Lab Motion. Our integration efforts allow controls design teams and mechanical engineering groups to optimize the critical interaction between mechanical and mechatronic systems throughout the product development process,” commented Dr. Vincent Braibant, Chairman of the Board of IMAGINE.

“The tight integration of system modeling, with 3D modeling of mechanisms for integrated mechatronic system performance analysis, offers the required response to the increased use of active systems in automotive, aerospace and other advanced manufacturing industries,” commented Dr. Urbain Vandeurzen, LMS Chairman and CEO. “As a result, we support our customers in reaching superior levels of product innovation, shortening design cycles and reducing development costs.”

"The automotive industry is constantly challenged by delivering more product innovation, while controlling time, risks and cost in development.  This drives forward requirement for new, more encompassing simulation solutions, which may require different suppliers to work together in an open innovation model.  Partnerships like the one between LMS and IMAGINE are therefore of great value for us,” commented Bruno Hazet, Head of the Technical and Scientific Resources department of PSA PEUGEOT CITROËN’s Vehicle Functional Performance Division.
