For car, truck and van development, interior noise due to body panel vibration is a major concern. The related development activities on the body panel and main structure currently mainly focus on modal analysis techniques, simply because of the efficiency advantages of modal techniques, both in numerical modelling and in testing.
This paper discusses developments in test based contribution analysis for body panel applications. On the basis of a Body in White, panel contributions are quantified between 30 and 450 Hz using test data. Spatial noise contribution results are shown as well as the noise contributions per structural mode for the lower frequencies. Finally, the use of uncorrelated panel vibrations for medium frequency analysis is demonstrated.
