Product quality and technological leadership are key elements in the corporate strategy of LMS. This requires a continuous investment in new methodologies as well as in optimized development processes. One important way to implement this strategy is through the definition and execution of collaborative research projects. Several of these projects are conducted within the framework of strategic research programs of the European Commission or the Flemish government.
The benefits of conducting technological research in such a focused and cooperative way are multifold. Research projects allow us to invest in more higher-risk research ventures than would normally be possible. Equally important, these projects provide a framework for cooperation with research partners. This not only makes it possible to share risks and experiences, but also to establish long-lasting strategic relationships with the actual users of the technology, complementary technology partners, and research institutes and universities. By working closely together with the end users, LMS is fully involved in the actual product design and development process. By trying out these advanced methods on full-scale industrial examples, a unique feedback on the real capabilities, bottlenecks, and performances is obtained.
