Running Efficient Tests &Analyses on Outdoor Equipment from Husqvarna

To better anticipate tomorrow ’s demands for comfortable usage and quiet operation, Husqvarna has renewed its complete NVH testing platform. LMS Test.Lab software and LMS SCADAS III test hardware helps Husqvarna to further improve the comfortable handling of its chain saws, brush cutters and other outdoor equipment. Through more effective measurement, analysis and reporting capabilities, the company is able to efficiently identify the root causes of noise and vibration issues. This enables it to gain deeper engineering insights from shorter testing efforts. Moreover, Husqvarna ’s products can now be designed with shorter development cycles while complying with more stringent legal requirements.

Husqvarna is a leading manufacturer of forestry, park and garden products. Within the Electrolux group, it is the leading representative of the professional outdoor equipment sector. Chain saws, brush cutters, saw mills, hedge trimmers, clearing saws, blowers and lawn riders are included in its comprehensive range of equipment.

“Preparing test setups and executing test programs have become a lot easier and more productive with the new LMS Test.Lab and LMS SCADAS III test platform, ”Bruno Erdmanis, Senior Measurement Engineer, states. “We simply do a better and faster testing job. We connect the tachometer and investigate the impact of moving and rotating mechanics by measuring the vibrations during engine run-up, idle, high-speed and other measurements, or assess the resonance in crankshafts and other structures. ”The customization capabilities of LMS Test.Lab made it easy to optimally adapt to Husqvarna ’s typical and specific testing circumstances. Erdmanis comments, “One push on a foot pedal is enough to trigger a new spectral measurement,  while operating a chain saw or a brush cutter with two hands. We can now validate any measurement on the spot, saving us the effort and time of re-doing extensive series of measurements.”

Next to its efficient measurement capabilities, the new testing solution offers easy-to-use and powerful analysis and reporting tools. With LMS Test.Lab, Husqvarna engineers have the means to quickly and confidently identify the exact circumstances under which their equipment vibrates excessively. Erdmanis explains, “We gain strategically important engineering insights from waterfall displays and convenient data comparisons, as well as from on-line and off-line processing of frequency sections and acoustic orders. A real understanding of the root causes behind noise and vibration problems makes us design outdoor equipment with strengthened brand values, such as low vibration and ergonomic features.”

The newly purchased equipment is much more than a testing system. Erdmanis concludes, “It provides us with a well-integrated and smooth process flow, from measurements and data acquisition over analysis to specific reporting capabilities. It also offers a tight integration with Microsoft Office. Furthermore, it leverages us to further extend our range of modal and sound measurements and equips us to successfully take on our current and future testing challenges.”
