Engine Thermal Management

The LMS Imagine.Lab Engine Thermal Management solution enables users to model engine warm-up and study consequences on engine reliability (metal masses temperatures), passenger comfort (cabin heating in cold start conditions) as well as fuel consumption and pollutant emissions. Moreover, the solution makes it possible to study and evaluate new heat management strategies.

Features

  • Transient and steady-state analysis
  • Prediction of temperatures in specific locations within the engine (metal, oil, coolant, gas, etc.)
  • Prediction of flow rates, pressure levels, heat balance …
  • Direct interaction between thermal model and Combustion Chamber model
  • Drive cycle analysis

Benefits

  • Size specific components (cooler, pumps)
  • Study improvement of the engine warm-up by testing new strategies and new architectures (electric pumps, split cooling, energy storage tank, heat recovery from exhaust line, new fluids, new materials, thermal screens, additional heaters, …)
  • Study influence of warm-up on cabin heating, fuel consumption and pollutant emissions
