Real-life simulation for intelligent system engineering - the next generation

Paris, France - October 8th & 9th, 2008

Dear colleagues,

As many of you are aware, the mechanical industry has transitioned to a mechatronics  industry whereby 80% of the future innovations will be software-driven or electronics-based. Unfortunately, today, close to 70% of large electronics integration projects face major problems. More than 50% of defects and warranty costs are software related. For today’s “smart” products, the sequential development of mechanical, electronic and control subsystems often require a physical mechanical system as a prerequisite for control design and validation. Single attribute focused target setting, backend-loaded system level integration and traditional CAE methods can present bottlenecks in the process, put pressure on validation and certification (A380/B787…) and cause late and expensive changes. The traditional product development cycle is no longer competitive. The scope and nature of mechanical system simulation needs to be re-visited and consequently the product development process needs to be radically redefined.

With years of experience innovating a breakthrough “hybrid” product development process employing the best of Mechanical Test and 3D CAE techniques, LMS now foresees a new age for virtual engineering based on multi-functional system mock-ups where 1) system functionsare managed throughout all phases of the development process- from concept to validation; 2) where 3D design is frontloaded by an optimized functional design;
3) where efficient 1D multi-disciplinary simulation precedes traditional 3D-CAE simulation; 4) where system functions are managed as integrated, interacting, multi-disciplinary capabilities combining mechanical, electrical, hydraulics, and controls; and 5) where these functional system mock-ups provide the multi-disciplinary systems context for detailed design and validation by 3D-CAE and physical testing.

Our Paris Conference will mark the introduction of a next revolution in simulation, advancing product development to cope with the broad and fast change the industry is facing. You will be hearing about the breakthrough techniques that will help you be more competitive in the years ahead. Please join us and many of our industry’s leading innovators in this year’s event.

Looking forward to meeting each of you in person at the conference,

Urbain Vandeurzen
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer

PS On October 7th, LMS organizes a series of pre-conference trainings on LMS Virtual.Lab Motion and Noesis OPTIMUS.
