LMS Virtual.Lab Modal Updating for Nastran is a model correlation and updating tool with objective to improve the quality of Nastran simulation models based on reference data.
With LMS Virtual.Lab Modal Updating for Nastran, analysts can ensure that the Nastran models they make match more closely reality. This is done in 3 steps. In a first step, the Nastran models are correlated with reference models (test-based models or FE models). Next, the sensitivity of the dynamic properties with respect to uncertainties in the design parameters is evaluated. Finally, this sensitivity information is then used to update or optimize the Nastran model to better match real life conditions.
LMS Virtual.Lab Modal Updating for Nastran easily handles incompatible geometries, which typically occur when comparing test and FE models. Models can be correlated geometrically through alignment, sizing and mapping procedures. Furthermore, LMS Virtual.Lab Modal Updating for Nastran provides numerical tools such as MAC (Modal Assurance Criterion), FRAC (Freqeuncy Response Assucance Criterion) up to tools to check the Orthogonality between two models, directly driving the Nastran GYUAN reduction.
Users can Detect the sensitivity of design parameters by using the integrated Nastran SOL 200 driver. This driver allows to easily define the properties to be used for sensitivity analysis, including material data and property data. Dynamic targets can be the systems total mass, a specific eigenfrequency that is badly correlated or the vibration levels for unit load conditions.
The SOL200 driver ultimately allows updating the Nastran FE model to better match the reference model. The latter is done by using the SOL200 sensitivities and using these in an optimization loop. Setting up the SOL200 optimization loop is entirely controlled from within LMS Virtual.Lab Modal Updating for Nastran.
All of these capabilities result in Nastran models for which uncertainties are identified and that ultimately match better reality.
