Sound Source Localization - Tire noise: holography

 
This example shows tire noise localization on a tire-dyno. Different configuration were measured: different loads on the wheel (300, 400kg), different speeds (60, 80, 100km/h), clockwise/counterclockwise, in front as well as from the side of the tire. 

Figure 4 (left) shows the position of the 5x4 microphone array, with a spacing of 8cm, as mounted in front of the wheel. A reference spectrum shows frequency ranges of interest; especially a peak at about 840Hz is very prominent. Figure 5 shows the wheel’s hologram at this frequency with a front view (left) and a side view (right):
